Wedding Photography FAQs: Answers Every Couple Should Know Before Booking

Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your wedding day.

Couples often have the same questions — and asking the right ones can make the difference between feeling confident or overwhelmed.

Below are the most common wedding photography FAQs I hear from couples across Hamilton, Waterdown, Ancaster, Niagara, Cambridge, and the GTA, answered honestly and from over 10 years of experience photographing weddings.

How Far in Advance Should We Book a Wedding Photographer?

Most couples book their photographer 9–18 months in advance, especially for popular dates between May and October.

If you’re planning a Saturday wedding during peak season, the earlier you reach out, the better. Availability can disappear quickly.

How Many Hours of Wedding Photography Do We Really Need?

This depends on your timeline, but for most weddings:

  • 8 hours covers:
    • Getting ready
    • Ceremony
    • Family & wedding party photos
    • Couple portraits
    • Reception highlights

That’s why most of my couples book Collection 1 (8 hours) and add a second photographer for more complete coverage and multiple angles throughout the day.

Do We Really Need a Second Photographer?

While not mandatory, a second photographer adds huge value:

  • Coverage from multiple angles
  • One photographer with each partner during prep
  • Better ceremony and reception storytelling
  • More candid moments captured

For larger weddings or tighter timelines, I strongly recommend it.

What Happens If Something Goes Wrong With the Photos?

This is where professional experience matters most.

I shoot on multiple professional cameras with dual card slots, meaning every image is recorded twice in real time. We also maintain secure backups and archives long after your wedding day.

I once had a bride contact me over five years later after losing all her photos in a flood. Because of my backup systems, I was able to restore her entire gallery the same day.

That peace of mind is priceless.

Will You Help Us With Posing?

Absolutely — and naturally.

Most couples tell me they’re nervous about being photographed. My approach is light, relaxed, and guided. I’ll help you:

  • Feel comfortable
  • Look natural
  • Laugh and enjoy the moment
  • Build confidence throughout the day

I even show couples a few great shots on the back of the camera so they know everything looks amazing.

How Many Photos Will We Receive?

The exact number varies depending on your wedding day, but for an 8-hour wedding, couples typically receive hundreds of fully edited images.

Every photo is carefully culled and edited — not batch-filtered or rushed.

How Long Does Editing Take?

Editing is one of the most time-intensive parts of wedding photography.

Each image is reviewed individually:

  • Distractions removed
  • Skin tones refined
  • Lighting and colour perfected
  • Environmental portraits enhanced for depth and drama

This process takes time, but it’s what transforms a moment into a timeless photograph.

Do You Offer Wedding Albums?

Yes — and they’re one of the most meaningful investments couples make.

High-quality heirloom albums typically range between $750–$900, depending on size and finishes. These are handcrafted products designed to last for generations — not mass-produced books.

Albums turn your wedding photos into something tangible your family will enjoy for decades.

Why Do Wedding Photography Prices Vary So Much?

Pricing reflects:

  • Experience and reliability
  • Backup systems and equipment
  • Editing time and artistic skill
  • Client experience and guidance
  • Long-term image security

Choosing based on price alone often leads to disappointment. Choosing based on value leads to confidence.

Are You the Right Photographer for Us?

I’m a great fit if you:

  • Value experience and trust
  • Want to feel relaxed and confident on your wedding day
  • Appreciate authentic moments over Pinterest replicas
  • Care about long-term image security and quality

I may not be the right fit if photography isn’t a priority or if you’re only shopping for the lowest price.

Many of my couples continue working with me long after their wedding — from family photography and newborn sessions to professional headshots and corporate events.
